No, I'm not going to talk about the search for intelligent life that comes from deep space (although it is an interesting topic - just type out SETI in google and read all about the work in this area). What this post is about is something closer to home, but not less extra-terrestrial: satellite television signals.
I wouldn't have known it if I didn't have to write this post, but did you know that the first satellite television signal was relayed over 40 years ago, and that the first direct-to-home television programming was launched way back in 1976? I would have never imagined that such technology had been in existence for so long.
But, while analogue television (the usual kind we have at home) is still the most widespread, satellite tv which is digital in nature, provided through companies such as Directv, is becoming increasingly popular. And why not? You get to enjoy higher quality transmissions, and you'd be spoiled for choice with the choice of programming that is available. And even if you were to move hundreds of miles, say from Texas, you would still be able to enjoy uninterrupted Direct TV in California!
Direct TV sure looks tempting. Now if only it were available here, then maybe that would entice me to try it out.
